The first step in caring for your skin is to understand your specific skin type and how it adapts to certain circumstances or seasonality. With that knowledge, you can then choose the right skincare products to cater to your skin’s specific needs, resulting in a more balanced, healthier and radiant complexion.
While most skincare collections are designed to address a single concern, Mirage Miracle products cater to a variety of needs all at once. Concerned with both dehydrated skin and ageing? Or acne and sensitive skin? We’ve got you covered! Mirage Miracle products are designed to complement each other.
Every person’s skin is unique, but you may identify with the 5 common skin type groups which your skin fits in the most.
How To Determine Your Skin Type
Normal Skin
The skin type that everyone wishes for! Those with Normal Skin tend to have a well-moisturised t-zone with barely visible pores. Their oil glands produce just the right amount of sebum to hydrate the skin. Hence, it is a skin that is not prone to breakouts and can tolerate most products without overreacting.
Although free from common skin conditions, individuals with Normal Skin should still maintain a skincare routine that includes a thorough cleansing, moisturising, and preventive skincare treatment.
Dry Skin
Dry Skin is characterised by a dull appearance and has a rough or flaky texture, resulting in the skin producing very little sebum. Sebum is the oil that builds a skin barrier which shields our skin against environmental factors such as temperature, dirt and pollutants. With a thinner skin barrier, Dry Skin types may feel tight and are more prone to redness and irritation.
Individuals with Dry Skin should avoid skincare products that contains drying ingredients which strip off sebum from the skin. It is also recommended to avoid things that can aggravate dry skin such as excessive UV exposure and long hot showers.
Instead, use a mild yet effective cleanser such as Mirage Miracle’s Super Moisture Cleanser that leaves your skin feeling hydrated long after cleansing. Don’t forget to moisturise too! The best moisturisers for Dry Skin are those containing hyaluronic acid (often listed as sodium hyaluronate in ingredients), glycerin, and marine actives like algae. This is due to their ability to attract water and deliver it directly to skin cells. Mirage Miracle’s Hyaluronic Serum contains 100% hyaluronic acid which helps to deeply hydrate your skin and retains moisture in the skin barrier, leaving a radiant and glowing look.
Oily Skin
If you’ve noticed that your skin is rougher than you like, it may be because of large or clogged pores. This happens when you fall under the Oily Skin type where the sebaceous glands are hyperactive and tend to produce more sebum or natural oil, than your skin needs. Excess oil can make your pores look larger and cause your skin to be more prone to acne and breakout. Oily Skin is also more prone to PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), a condition which leaves dark spots on the skin after a breakout has healed.
A gentle exfoliator suitable for daily usage is essential to promote cell turnover and prevent sebum from building up in the pores. Mirage Miracle’s Refining Face Polish helps to delicately remove dead skin cells and clogged pores, polishing the uppermost layers of skin to allow fresh skin to breathe and lighten any dark spots.
Combination Skin
Combination skin is characterised by a mixture of oily skin and dry skin at different areas of the face. The forehead and nose areas tend to be oilier where there are more oil glands, while the cheek, mouth and eye areas tend to be drier.
Individuals with Combination Skin would require different skincare routines and products to treat different areas based on their skin condition. Two products that work well together to balance the PH levels of Combination Skin are Mirage Miracle’s Collagen Ampoule and Clear Care Serum. The Collagen Ampoule is packed with 17 amino acids that fuels cells for increased collagen production, tightened pores and minimise oil sebum, unveiling a visibly plump and hydrated complexion. Clear Care Serum effectively prevents acne aggravation while continuing to provide hydration to the skin.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin may be caused by both external and internal factors. External factors include temperature, ingredients of product used and sun exposure, while internal factor includes hormones fluctuation. Individuals with Sensitive Skin are more prone to irritation and inflammation and may have an overreaction reaction to certain ingredients.
Although it is a challenge to manage Sensitive Skin, an easier way to determine which ingredients are suitable for you will be to introduce only one new formula or product at a time. Patch test each new formula on your inner forearm to minimize any adverse reactions on your face. It is also best to prevent using products that have alcohol content, exfoliators that are abrasive, cleansing devices that are rough on the skin and products that contain fragrance.
If you are thinking of a way to calm down and repair your sensitive skin, Mirage Miracle Silk Protein Repairing Mask helps to reduce any redness and inflammation effectively and reactivates your skin’s natural hydration. With continuous usage, the mask visibly improves your skin barrier, giving it a younger and healthier complexion.
